Job Summary
This position is responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts in small batches. They can work on a variety of machines such as vertical milling machines and horizontal lathes. In addition, they could be working in welding, cutting, polishing & finishing or laser marking. They ensure that products meet the precise specifications set out by engineering.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintains a clean and safe work area and complies with the company’s safety requirements. Meets time estimates as assigned to each job
- Sets up and operates various pieces of machine shop equipment with detailed instruction and direction. Machines components to high-quality standards and tolerance requirements of +/- .0005 to +/- .005 inches.
- Makes adjustments and monitors assigned equipment to ensure dimensional part integrity.
- Deburrs, buffs or sands parts to meet requirements to print specifications.
- Inspects parts visually and dimensionally using basic inspection equipment and techniques to assure conformance to requirements with minimal assistance.
- Completes all applicable documentation for current operations.
- Practices 6S principles on a daily basis.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Must be flexible enough to work in all areas of operation per the direction of the Supervisor.
- Desire to learn programing of CNC controls.

Credentials and Experience
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
